Background
User Friendly Media's internal sales team operates on an annual schedule for the print directories that are still being sold and published. As fewer directories are published, there was less time in the year that sales people were actively selling, so there was a need for a product that could fill a gap in time and continue to generate revenue and commission for the sales team. Also, the majority of the company's digital sales occurred during sales pitches for the print directory as upsells, so the opportunity to go in and sell a new print product presented an opportunity for a lift in digital sales as well.
Project
With Clip & Save, the goal was to create a targeted periodical that contained exclusive deals, distributed to small areas in towns. We created distribution zones in markets, and advertisers could choose to advertise in one or as many zones as they liked for separate fees. With this smaller footprint and lower production cost than print directories, as well as a quarterly distribution schedule instead of annual, sales people were able to attract advertisers that had previously stopped advertising in the print directories. Also, each ad was given tracked RCF phone line so that we could report how many phone calls the advertisers received from each publication.
Cover Design
The cover of Clip & Save was designed to be one large advertisement for a popular local establishment that was willing to provide exclusive offers that go a bit beyond what they might already be advertising elsewhere. We also included an 'In This Issue' area that was a combination of advertiser we knew were popular in the area, as well as some advertisers that had long history with User Friendly Media.
Market Coverage Maps
Sales people were provided coverage maps to show where each issue would be delivered. Advertizers could choose to advertise in one or all zones, with discounts for multiple zones chosen.
